BuzzFeed asked people protesting for Islan Nettles today in New York what justice for her means to them.
In August, Islan Nettles, a 21-year-old transgender woman, was brutally assaulted in Harlem outside of a police station. After lingering in a coma for a week, she died.

Protesters gathered in front of the courthouse Thursday, angry with the NYPD over what they felt was an unsatisfactory investigation and prosecution after Nettles’ assault.

Despite the district attorney's dropping of misdemeanor charges in order to possibly file more severe charges, protesters were still incensed by what they perceived to be a slow-acting, dismissive NYPD.
