Tokyo's bars aren't designed to be easy to find. If they're not tucked away in random apartment buildings or tiny alleys, they're slow to warm up to newcomers. Many 6-seat bars in Shinjuku's famed Golden Gai pub rows, for example, turn away anyone who's not a regular, or charge entry fees. That doesn't mean they look any less magical or charming.
