BuzzFeed asked people protesting for Islan Nettles today in New York what justice for her means to them.


In August, Islan Nettles, a 21-year-old transgender woman, was brutally assaulted in Harlem outside of a police station. After lingering in a coma for a week, she died.

Despite the district attorney's dropping of misdemeanor charges in order to possibly file more severe charges, protesters were still incensed by what they perceived to be a slow-acting, dismissive NYPD.
